What are PDO Threads?

Polydioxanone or PDO Threads are made from biodegradable medical-grade sutures. They are thinner than a strand of hair. When inserted under the skin they can improve blood flow and stimulate collagen production, hyaluronic acid and elastin. Keeping your skin young requires a combination of all of these.

How is the procedure done?

The area being treated is cleaned and followed by an injection under the surface of the skin. Once the area is numb an entry point for cog threads are made, they are carefully inserted to create the desired appearance. When having screw, twist or mono thread treatments a numbing cream is applied 30 minutes to the skin before the threads are inserted.

What areas can be treated?

Almost any part of your face that is experiencing signs of ageing can be treated with a thread lift. Treatments are most commonly performed on the cheeks, jawline, neck, arms, double chin reduction or to lift the eyebrows.

Who should not have this treatment?

  • If you have a neurological disease
  • Anyone under the age of 18
  • A full consultation will be performed beforehand

Common Questions

A person's age at the time of treatment determines how long PDO threads can be effective for. Other factors include the quality of skin, intensity of sagging and the number of threads being used. You can expect to see results lasting for anywhere between twelve to eighteen months.

You can begin to see an immediate improvement in the areas treated by the lift. A further gradual improvement will continue between two to six months when the new collagen is produced between the threaded areas, this creates further tightening and a more youthful overall appearance.

The PDO threads are made of a bio-absorbable material and will naturally dissolve around six months after being fitted. The effects of the lift will remain for anywhere between twelve to eighteen months. This depends on your lifestyle and the number of threads inserted.

There are a few factors to determine how often treatment is needed. However, as a guide, it may not be necessary to have more threads anywhere between twelve months and eighteen months after treatment.

A painkiller will be injected under the surface of the skin to numb the area this prevents any pain or discomfort while the threads are inserted. The pain relief is similar to that of a dental injection and lasts around the same length of time.
